Chevelle Vehicle Identification Number
Vehicle Identification Number
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is unique to each vehicle and describes the manufacturer, series designation, body style, engine, year of production, assembly plant and production number. It should be spot welded to the A-pillar, next to the door hinge, on the drivers side.
Identifying The Vehicle Year
American models were stamped with the year of production as the first digit in 1964, then moved it to be the sixth digit in 1965 and remained it that way through 1972.
Canadian models were stamped with the year of production as the first digit in 1964 through 1966, then moved it to be the sixth digit in 1967 and it remained that way through 1972.
