Chevelle Distributor Identification
Decoding Distributor Numbers
Distributors from 1964 through 1966 were normally cast iron while 1967 and later were aluminum. 1964 through 1966 units have the codes embossed on an aluminum tag while the 1967 and later units have the codes stamped into the housing. The date code is included, indicating the year, month, and day.
For example: 9 L 11 decodes this way: 9 / L / 11
- First number indicates the year of production, 9 is for 1969.
- Second letter indicates the month of production, L is for November.
- Third and forth numbers indicate the day of production, 11 is for the 11th.
