1972 Chevelle Power Teams

These are the engine, transmission, and rear axle combinations for the 1972 Chevelle.

In 1972, General Motors offered five different engines in six different horse-power ratings, seven different transmissions, and two different rear axles with four different axle ratios.

The engines offered were the 250 with 110 hp, the 307 with 130 hp, the 350 with 165 hp or 175 hp, the 400 with 240 hp, or the 454 with 270 hp.

The transmissions offered were the 3 speed Saginaw with 2.85:1 or 2.54:1 ratio, the 4 speed Mucie with 2.54:1 ratio, the heavy duty 3 speed Muncie with 2.42:1 ratio, the heavy duty 4 speed Muncie with 2.20:1 ratio, the Powerglide, and the Turbo Hyrda-Matic.

The rear axles were offered in either a 10 bolt or 12 bolt differential using 2.73, 3.08, 3.31, 3.36 axle ratios with or without positraction.
